SSC JE Exam Syllabus Details:

Syllabus Details For SSC JE Exam : Full Syllabus details of SSC JE (Junior Engineer) Examination for recruitment of Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Quantity Surveying & Contracts) for various Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India. The posts are Group “B” (Non  Gazetted), in Level-6 (Rs 35400- 112400/-) of pay matrix of 7th Central Pay Commission. The Syllabus details are given below.

The Examination Consist of Two Papers (Paper-I and Paper-II):

  • Paper-I (Computer Based Examination)
  • Paper-II (Descriptive paper)

Paper-I (Computer Based Examination):

1. General Intelligence50 Questions50 Marks
2. General Awareness50 Questions50 Marks
3. General Engineering (Civil & Structure/ Electrical/ Mechanical)100 Questions100 Marks
Total200 Questions200 Marks
  • The exam will be scoring in nature.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  • The Exam Duration is 120 minutes (2 Hours).
  • The questions will be in both English & Hindi.
  • The exam will consist of objective type, multiple-choice questions only.

General Intelligence & Reasoning:

General Intelligence would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate’s abilities to deal with abstract ideas & symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.

General Awareness:

General awareness of the environment around him/ her and its application to society. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity and Scientific Research. Questions will also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person.

General Engineering:

Part-A (Civil Engineering): Estimating, Costing and Valuation, Building Materials, Surveying, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering. Structural Engineering: RCC Design, Steel Design, Theory of Structures, Concrete Technology.

Part-B (Electrical Engineering): Basic concepts, Circuit law, Magnetic Circuit, AC Fundamentals, Electrical Machines, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single phase induction Motors, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Basic Electronics, Measurement and Measuring instruments.

Part-C (Mechanical Engineering): 1st Law of Thermodynamics, 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, Properties of Pure Substances, Air Compressors & their cycles, Refrigeration cycles, Principle of Refrigeration Plant, Nozzles & Steam Turbines, Air standard Cycles for IC Engines, IC Engine Performance, IC Engines Combustion, IC Engine Cooling & Lubrication, Rankine cycle of System, Boilers, Classification, Specification, Fitting & Accessories. Theory of Machines and Machine Design, Engineering Mechanics and Strength of Materials, Properties & Classification of Fluids, Fluid Statics, Measurement of Fluid Pressure, Fluid kinematics, Dynamics of Ideal fluids, Measurement of Flow rate, basic principles, Hydraulic Turbines, Centrifugal Pumps, Classification of steel.

Paper-II (Descriptive Examination):

Written Examination

Part-A : General Engineering(Civil & Structure) /
Part-B : General Engineering(Electrical) /
Part-C : General Engineering (Mechanical)

300 Marks

  • The exam is scoring in nature.
  • The Exam Duration is 180 minutes (3 Hours).
  • The Paper-II will have to be written either in Hindi or in English. Part paper written in Hindi and part in English will be awarded zero marks.

Estimating, Costing and Valuation, Building Materials, Surveying, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering. Structural Engineering: RCC Design, Steel Design, Theory of Structures, Concrete Technology.

Part-B (Electrical Engineering):

Basic concepts, Circuit law, Magnetic Circuit, AC Fundamentals, Electrical Machines, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single phase induction Motors, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Basic Electronics, Measurement and Measuring instruments.

Important Points:

  1. Based on the normalized marks scored in the (Paper-I) i.e. Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in Paper-II.
  2. Based on the performance in Paper-I + Paper-II, candidates will be shortlisted for Document Verification.
  3. Candidates are allowed to bring their own Slide–Rule, Calculator, Logarithm Table and Steam Table for Paper-II only. They are not allowed to use such aids for Paper-I.
