Syllabus for Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination.

Syllabus Details For SSC CGL : Full Syllabus details of SSC CGL (Combined Graduate level) Examination for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer(AAO), Assistant Account  Officer(AAO), Assistant Section Officer(ACO) in Various Department, Inspector in various Department, Sub-Inspector in various Department, Junior Statistical Officer(JSO), Statistical Investigator Grade-II, Auditor in various Department, Accountant in various Department, Senior Secretariat Assistant and Upper Division Clerks, Tax Assistant. The Syllabus details are given below.

The Examination will be conducted in four tiers :

  • Tier-I (Computer Based Examination)
  • Tier-II (Computer Based Examination)
  • Tier-III (Pen and Paper Mode (Descriptive paper))
  • Tier-IV (Computer Proficiency Test/ Data Entry Skill Test (wherever   applicable)/ Document Verification)

Tier-I (Computer Based Examination):

The exam will be scoring in nature. There will be negative marking of 1/4 of each Correct Answer. The Exam Duration is 60 minutes. The questions will be in English & Hindi both except for English Comprehension. The exam will consist of objective type, multiple-choice questions only.

Quantitative Aptitude:

The test will be comprise of computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, Square Root. Percentage, Profit and Loss, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple Interest, Compound Interest , Discount, Ratio & Proportion, Averages, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Algebra, Surd and Indices, Graphs of Linear Equations, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles,Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right  Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Trigonometric ratio,  Heights and Distances, Frequency polygon, Histogram, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

General Intelligence:

It Comprise questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. Analogies, similarities and differences, spatial orientation, space visualization, analysis, problem solving, decision making,  judgment, visual memory, discrimination, observation, Relationship concepts,  Arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, Arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, The topics are, Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/ Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, syllogistic reasoning, Semantic Classification, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Problem Solving, Figural Series, Word Building, Coding & de-coding, Numerical Operations, symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams, Figural Pattern- folding and completion, Punched hole/ pattern- folding & un-folding, Indexing, Address matching, Date & city matching, Classification of centre codes/roll numbers, decoding and classification, Small & Capital letters/ numbers coding, Embedded Figures, Critical thinking, Social Intelligence, Emotional Intelligence.

English Language:

Fill in the Blanks, Error Spotting, Synonyms , Antonyms , Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Sentence Improvement , Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Spellings/ Detecting miss-spelt words, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage, English Language Grammar.

General Awareness:

History, Polity, Geography, Economics, Static General Knowledge, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer knowledge, Environment And Current Events.

Tier-II (Computer Based Examination):

The exam is scoring in nature. The Exam Duration is 120 minutes for each paper. There will be negative marking of 1/4 of each Correct Answer in all the four paper.  The questions will be set both in English & Hindi except Paper-II in Tier-II. The exam will consist of objective type, multiple-choice questions only.

  • Tier-II of Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all the posts.
  • And Paper-III will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Statistical Investigator Grade-II in the office of Registrar General, India (M/o Home Affairs) and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
  • Tier-II of Paper-IV will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-IV i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

Paper-I (Quantitative Aptitude):

Collection, Classification and Presentation of Statistical Data, Measures of Central Tendency, Skewness and Kurtosis, Moments,  Measures of Dispersion, Moments, Correlation and Regression, Sampling Theory ,  Probability Theory, Random Variable and Probability Distributions , Time Series Analysis , Analysis of Variance , Index Numbers .

Paper-IV (General Studies-Finance and Economics)

  • Part A: Finance and Accounts-(80 marks)

Financial Accounting, Basic concepts of accounting

  • Part B: Economics and Governance-(120 marks)

Comptroller & Auditor General of India- Constitutional provisions, Role and responsibility, Finance Commission-Role and functions, Basic Concept of Economics and introduction to Micro Economics, Theory of Demand and Supply, Forms of Market and price determination in different markets, Theory of Production and cost, Indian Economy, Money and Banking, Economic Reforms in India, Role of Information Technology in Governance.

Tier-III (Pen and Paper Mode / Descriptive paper)

  • The exam will be scoring in nature.

Tier-IV (Computer Proficiency Test/ Data Entry Skill Test (wherever   applicable)/ Document Verification)

  • Skill Test/ Typing Test will be of qualifying nature.

Date Entry Skill Test (DEST)

  • For the post of Tax Assistants (Central Excise & Income Tax): Data Entry Speed Test at 8,000 Key Depression per hour on Computer.
  • The “Data Entry Speed Test” Skill Test will be conducted for a passage of about 2000 key depressions for a duration of 15 minutes.

Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

Computer Proficiency Test comprising of three modules:

  1. Word Processing,
  2. Spread Sheet and
  3. Generation of Slides

for the posts of Assistant Section ,Assistant and Inspector.

Important Points:

  1. The candidates appearing in the final year of their graduation can also apply, however the candidate must possess essential qualification on or before date mansion.
  2. Tier-I and Tier-II will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions only.
